How life changed when I moved near the ocean

Wholesome days of life

Season 1, Story 4

In 12th grade, my  English teacher gave us a poetry assignment that left an imprint on the rest of my life. It was a poem called ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost. It read:

“I shall be telling you this with a sigh,

Somewhere ages and ages hence;

Two roads diverged in a wood and I,

Took the one less traveled by.

And that has made all the difference.”

Eventually, I left old familiar places and life lead me to a humble abode down south by the ocean. Where the sounds of the waves were quaint and mellow. Where the water soothes my entire being.

And life slowed down.

Have you ever noticed how uplifting and rejuvenating it feels to be in water? Whether it’s a bath or a shower, a swim in the pool, a dip in the lake or the ocean or drinking that refreshing cup of water on a hot summer day. It’s no coincidence that water makes up 70% of the Earth’s surface as it makes up roughly 65-70% our own human bodies.

Our journey to being full grown adults started in the water of our mother’s womb. When I’m in the ocean, there’s a sense of feeling home. It becomes natural to jump around, take deep breaths, feel weightless as I float in it. The body releases any tensions, the mind no longer feels fixated on the presence of the past or the presence of the future- only the presence of now.

As we inhale the salty cool ocean air into the body; the throat and lungs feel more clear. There’s a burst of energy. The ocean is filled with such high mineral content that any cuts on our skin mend themselves. The sound of the waves outside instantly soothe the waves within. The coldness awakens alertness from all senses. The sight of the birds flying, the seascape vastness of the the unknown, the clouds floating in the sky leaves us in complete awe.

All feels calm and at peace naturally guiding us into a meditative state. It’s depth, bliss and beauty instantly reminds us of the ocean within.

The ocean contains a field of negative ions which conclusions of a study have shown it’s been linked to reduce depression, stress and alter emotional states. High concentrations of negative ions are essential for our energy and moods. It recharges our energy field. This is also found in forests, lakes, mountains, etc.

The ocean is a healing remedy from Mother Earth and it’s free.

Though the ocean may be vast, deep

and mysterious.

She opens herself to receive you

and all that you are.

You feel weightless in her womb.

At ease.

Reminded of your own depth.

As you continue to dance through the journey of life. “
