There is no hurry (even if it feels like there is)
Don't let societal expectations fool you of a life worth being patient for
Went on a walk this morning on the only hill we have here in southwest Florida (lol). As someone who moved here from New York, this is the perfect time to express how much I miss the mountains.
It’s the second walk of a monthly rhythm i’ve begun with a few new mom friends from church. While our husbands stayed home with the children, we show up at this hill to hike and tend to ourselves- to our bodies, mind and spirit. We take in the fresh air, the warm sunshine, the dirt on our sneakers and the ‘good morning’ smiles of the people walking by.
We all agreed that it’s not easy to make time for yourself as a mom but it’s important that we do. At the end, we take note of how many steps we took and take a selfie so we could see the progression through the year.
As we debated on who’s arm was longer to take the selfie, an older woman approached us—
“I can take your picture,” she offered.
As she did, she overheard us talking about our children.
“Good for you,” she said. “Good for getting yourselves out.”
She asked how many children we had and naturally, we asked back.
“One,” she said. “A daughter. I had her at 38.”
Not because she planned it that way but because that’s when her and her husband found each other. That’s when they married.
Her eyes crinkled as she spoke; bright, joyful, unhurried.
She told us it was the best thing that ever happened to her. That finding the love of her life and having a child later in life is what keeps her young.
And though she joked she was old enough to be our grandmas…
she was exactly that— young.
She was vibrant, youthful, radiant and happy. Proud of the life she made and the timing of how it unfolded as she shared it with 3 young moms who were strangers.
“God keeps me young!” she called out as she walked back to her car.
“He sure does!” we shouted back.
It was a small interaction but it stayed with me.
I love the way the Lord speaks through “strangers”.
It was a quiet reminder that there is no rush.
That life is meant to be lived not chased.
Life is meant to be enjoyed, exactly where you are right now.
Some of the best things—the truest things—are saved for later.
For the moment when we are finally steady enough to receive them.
So keep living a life slowed down.
Your life is so worthy of tending to, slow and steady.
Slow and steady.
Warmly,

Wow 🙌🏾it’s such a beautiful reminder that life unfolds in its own perfect timing. I love how even small, simple moments, a walk, a smile, a conversation with a stranger, can teach us to slow down and truly tend to ourselves. It’s inspiring to hear how you’re making space for your own rhythm as moms, and how joy and gratitude can show up in unexpected ways. Definitely a reminder to breathe, savor the moment, and trust the timing of our own lives.
