Reconnect to Your Body Wisdom

The most profound relationship we have in this lifetime is our relationship with our body.

The more you can develop a loving, compassionate and trusting relationship with your body, the more ease you’ll have with every experience whether it’s work, exercise or relationships with others.

Your body is like an antenna that receives signals from the Divine and it is a strong ally in supporting you to experience the purpose (dharma) of your life.

So if our bodies play such a sacred role,

why oh why do we judge it so much?

If you notice yourself often judging your body, feeling nervous around others, caring too much about what you look like: there’s nothing wrong with you.

There’s a few reasons why this is so common.

For thousands of years, women especially have been told what to look like, what to do, how to dress, and how to use their bodies. This is still present in mainstream representation of women's bodies today. The movies we watch, the music we listen to, the magazines we read, the social media accounts we follow, how your parents talked about their bodies all play a large role in how we compare ourselves and view our own bodies.

This is what I call external programming.

It is the subtlety of years of external programming that creates the beliefs we have about ourselves.

Because of this, you may think:

I have to dress my body up a certain way to be successful.

I have to run an hour every day to be thin.

I have to lift heavy weights to be fit.

All of which points to the deep rooted belief, that you’re not good enough as you are.

We are unconsciously teaching ourselves that what you look like

and what you wear = what you’re worth.

Secondly, technology. Technology has and will continue to be a large part of how we communicate as a human species. However, if we are not mindful - technology will be a large reason why we are more disconnected from our bodies.

Here’s what I mean:

Ever notice you’re thinking about something that you’re trying to avoid thinking about because it’s too uncomfortable so instead of thinking about it- you pick up your phone and scroll social media instead?

Do this enough times and you are replacing the opportunity to develop a deeper connection with your body and express your emotions with technology.

What you touch is also touching you (whether you can see it or not).

So what can we do about this?

How can we reconnect to our own body wisdom?

Slow down.

Slow down.

Slow down.

In this fast paced ever evolving world, we can become distracted and lose sight of our greater purpose in life.

When you slow down, you can find a better balance with technology.

You create more space to heal and connect with your own body wisdom.

You can listen to it and hear it more clearly.

Take a moment right now to take a few deep breaths and be present with your body.

What are you feeling?

There is no right or wrong answer.

The answer that appears is your own body wisdom sending you feedback.

Then ask yourself, “how do I desire to feel?”

Then listen to your body. It will tell you what it needs.

Maybe you hear your stomach growling ~ this means your body requires nourishment.

Maybe you feel anxious ~ this means your body requires movement then grounding.

Ultimately, reconnecting to your body wisdom is a journey.

Each individual has a unique set of memories and/or traumas stored in their body.

So it’s important not to judge or compare your journey to others which can be the tendency.

Treat your body like a temple that houses your Spirit.

Forgive yourself.

Nurture yourself.

Notice what you need and ask for it.

Your body is so much more than looks.

Your body does not equate to your worth.

You have a body but you are beyond your body.
